Food inflation starts to hit home
TORONTO, OTTAWA, VANCOUVER -- Canadians have lost their short-lived immunity to soaring global food costs, as prices jumped last month, in some cases dramatically. Consumers forked out 1.2 per cent more for food in April than they did a year earlier, even as the strong Canadian currency continued to dampen the cost of imported fruits and vegetables and other products priced in U.S. dollars, the latest Statistics Canada numbers show.
