It's hard to think of anything more discretionary, non-vital or even downright unnecessary than a BlackBerry. Oh sure, they're convenient. Your spouse can e-mail you a to-do list and you can't pretend you didn't get it. You can settle bar bets on the spot with a quick Google search. You can thumb away on the putting green like a big shot. Sometimes you even get work done with it. But a consumer staple it is most assuredly not.
