Senator Byrd: Heeding failings of a fallen republic
In 1993, at age 75, West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd delivered 14 Senate speeches in a period of 14 weeks, each of them more than an hour in length, each packed with names, dates and complicated detail and each delivered extemporaneously, from memory, with no use of notes. Subsequently published as a book by the U.S.
