ACTS lays off 650 amid Air Canada cutbacks

MONTREAL — The former Air Canada Technical Services has laid off 650 engine and aircraft maintenance workers in Montreal and Winnipeg because of capacity cuts at Air Canada and turmoil in the airline industry. ACTS Aero Technical Support & Services Inc. notified employees Tuesday about the immediate layoffs that affected 250 full-time employees and 400 others, most of whom worked on contracts to overhaul two Air Canada aircraft models.
