Rona profit, same-store sales fall

BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — Hardware giant Rona Inc. says that slumping consumer confidence left its mark on second-quarter sales, putting a dent in its profits. The company reported Tuesday that profits dropped to $80.1-million or 69 cents per diluted share from $86.2-million or 74 cents per share in 2007. Consolidated sales were $1.47-billion in the quarter, up about $4.3-million compared with the same period of 2007.
