Investors bail on Maple Leaf

After cautiously watching a tainted-meat crisis unfold at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. over the past week, investors rushed to unload their shares yesterday as the number of deaths tied to a listeria outbreak multiplied.
"With all the uncertainty, people have clearly decided to get out," said Tim McElvaine, who owns about one million Maple Leaf shares through McElvaine Investment Management.
The company's shares closed 10 per cent lower to $8.
