NEW YORK — Nervous investors waited for American International Group to announce a survival plan Monday as the insurer tries to avoid becoming the latest financial titan to be swept aside in the biggest financial shake-up since the Great Depression. Frantic attempts to find a rescuer for investment bank Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. failed over the weekend, Merrill Lynch & Co.
