On history

1. This isn't just about Harper giving a speech supporting the war in Iraq; it's about him possibly lifting chunks of said speech from his neo-con soul brother John Howard.

2. I can't find a transcript of Paul Martin speaking publicly that Canada should be in Iraq. Can you flip me a link to his speech?

3. "Canada is not in Iraq. The current Prime Minister neither wanted troops there nor has put them there in his 2 plus years in office." The first sentence is a fact and is one of Jean Chretien's greatest legacies. The first claim of the second sentence is of course absolutely false. The John Howard speech was a clear statement of support for Canadian troops in Iraq.

  1. Norman Spector from Victoria, Canada writes: The war we should be debating in this campaign is not Iraq, but the war Jean Chretien did get us into--Afghanistan, which is also part of his legacy. We should be debating the decision to cut and run from Kandahar--where Paul Martin sent our troops--in 2011. We should be debating whether it's moral to keep our troops there for an additional two years, or whether Jack Layton's positon is the only sensible one now that Mr. Harper has adopted the Liberal deadline of 2011--against the recommendation of John Manley.
  2. C.M. Slothouber from Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada writes: We should be asking ourselves what other speeches and policies has he been copying from political losers.
  3. Greg Van Zandt from Canada writes: I guess they don't remember this?

Part of Dion environmental plan changed after blog report
    SCOTT DEVEAU

    Globe and Mail Update

Liberal leadership candidate Stephane Dion's campaign hastily changed part of the candidate's environmental platform as posted on his Web site today after a blog reported that parts of it were almost identical copies — without attribution — of a David Suzuki Foundation paper published the previous week.

  4. Joan Tintor from Canada writes: A decision to do nothing while needlessly p***ing off our largest trading partner is one of Jean Chretien's greatest legacies. I heartily agree.
