North American stock markets dip

Investors took a breather Wednesday, with stock markets closing nearly flat as U.S. lawmakers hammered out the details of a new rescue package for the ailing financial sector. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 0.18 per cent, or 19.59 points, to 10,831.07. The broader S&P 500 lost 0.45 per cent 1,160.06. In Toronto, the S&P/TSX closed 0.33 per cent lower, or 38.39 points, to 11,714.51. Oil fell $2.11 (U.S.) to $98.
