Loonie slides more than 2.5 cents

The Canadian dollar fell by more than 2.5 cents (U.S.) Wednesday as the price of crude oil skidded below $56 a barrel. The commodity-sensitive loonie slid to 80.80 cents, down 2.78 cents against the U.S. dollar, by late afternoon. “The bears were running the game overnight amid concerns about waning global demand,” Bank of Montreal economist Robert Kavcic said in a morning research note.
